The Boshin War (1868-1869)
The Boshin War which is occasionally known as the Japanese Revolution took place in Japan in 1868-1869. The war was fought between the ruling Tokugawa shogunate and those who sought to return power to the imperial court or rule. The war was started when nobles and young samurai found dissatisfaction with the way the shogunate handled foreigners following the opening of Japan. The effects the war had on the community because the war used everything as a battlefield which in the end could affect families by their homes being destroyed or civilians being killed. There were also many casualties with a total 8,200 dead and more that 5,000 wounded. This war is similar to the American Civil War for many reasons. It was similar because both wars fought for who should rule. The Union or and Confederates or the Tokugawa shogunate and those who sought to return power to the imperial court or rule. They also both had many casualties with people being killed or left wounded.
